Why are we selling this boat?

We purchased this boat in 2000 with the intention of using it as a starter boat. At the time we were newlyweds and wanted a boat that we could use to visit the various harbor towns on Lake Michigan. Originally we docked in Hammond, IN. From there we would take trips to South Haven MI, New Buffalo MI, Chicago, and Michigan City IN. One of the most memorable experiences was docking outside of Soldier Field for a Chicago Bears home opener, tailgating in the harbor, and having a short walk to the game.

We put the boat away for the 2005 and 2006 seasons as we had children who were too small to have on the boat and be relaxed at the same time. In 2007 we got back in the water this time docking in New Buffalo. The kids really enjoy boating life and we really like how close you become as a family due to the time you spend together. To us, every weekend is like a vacation where we can get away from everyday life and enjoy being a family.

The time has come to give our "starter boat" to someone who wants to begin the experiences we have enjoyed. With the low hours that the boat has we see it having many good years in it. As for us, the two foot-itis has set in and we have our hearts set on another boat. Once you have the boating bug you cannot let it go.

We hope that our Bubble World is as good of a fit for the next owner as it was for us.

Pictures of Issues

Because we have been receiving a lot of inquiries about the issues we described, we ran up this week (June 2009) and took some pictures of the issues that we know about. Here are the pics along with a brief description. Some of them may be difficult to see since the boat is still under shrink wrap.

Tears in Captains chair. These have been there since we purchased the boat in 2000. Also, last season we found that the chair mount is cracked. This causes the chair to swivel and not lock in place.

Small tears in seats. These occurred in the past two seasons and are the result of exposure to sunlight. You can also see the small crack in the gel coat next to the step pad.

There is a slight bend in the port railing which occured during indoor winter storage about 7 years ago. The starboard antennae is cracked. The forward hatch only has one support bracket but is still operational and will stay open when locked.

Trailer - The trailer is a 1980 tandem Targer Trailer and is not original to this boat. The trailer needs four new tires. The current ones have been on the trailer more than 10 years and are cracking. They still hold air and the marina moves the boat around on the trailer. One of the taillights was broken during storage (I may have a replacement on the boat). Also, the post to adjust the height of the hitch is beat up and the crank pin needs to be replaced. We do not suggest using this trailer for long distances, it's best use is for storage. We chose not to maintain it since we have only been using it as a cradle for winter storage for the past 7 years.

Not Pictured - The stove has never been used. When we purchased the boat we were told the electric range does not work but the alcohol would. The boat could use a fresh coat of bottom paint. The spot light does not turn side to side.
Recent repairs - We had the steering cable and helm replaced last September. They adjusted the throttle cable at that time as well. Prior to that the boat was pulling to port and one engine would occasional stall when shifting to reverse. In 2007, we replaced the bellows, inlet hose, gimbal bearing, trim senders, and shift shaft bearings and seals.
